Organizational Changes

UC Davis Design and Construction Management (DCM) delivers new, high-quality buildings at the forefront of green building design; transforms existing facilities to meet future demands; manages improvements to our campus infrastructure; administers public-private partnerships that create opportunities for building large-scale projects like West Village or innovation districts like Aggie Square, and so much more.

What's Different About Construction at UC Davis?

UC Davis is constantly undertaking large projects that have lasting impacts across campus. The university has been massively expanding housing,  pursuing carbon neutrality, improving seismic safety and creating and renovating classroom space, to name a few concurrent initiatives responsible for the construction around campus. Carrying out so many projects is no easy feat, so UC Davis implements many strategies to reduce costs and advance university priorities.

Reimagining Campus Space

With many departments sizing up potential changes to their labs or offices in light of the pandemic or needing additional space for new personnel, DCM's Space Management and Project Development unit can help with cost-effective solutions or assist in realizing incentives that add to your bottom line.

Several Design and Construction Management employees have been recognized with STAR awards for their recent outstanding work.

In Memoriam: Justin Hall

It was with a heavy heart that I share the news of Justin Hall's unexpected passing after an automobile collision early Monday morning.

Staff Profile: Tammy Booker

With the same efficiency and excitement she brings to her marathon training, Tammy Booker, space planner for Design and Construction Management's Space Management and Project Development team, has helped UC Davis claim back thousands of square feet of space, save money, and provide space for academics and research to thrive.

Bring in the Reinforcements

In 2020, UC Davis completed seismic evaluations for all of its 1,186 buildings. Since the evaluation process started, renovations and construction on 12 buildings at the Davis campus have commenced, ensuring compliance with the new seismic standard. Another 150 buildings have ratings requiring further study and possible seismic improvement — all of which must be completed by 2030 to meet UC requirements.

Staff Profile: Julie Nola

Just like the New York Times puzzles she figures out every morning, Julie Nola treats every new day at work as a puzzle to solve. As an architect and director of Major Capital Projects since 2017, she has worked on and managed numerous projects at UC Davis over the past three decades. Her contributions to maintaining and supporting her beloved UC Davis is felt immensely throughout the campus.

Construction During COVID-19

While the ghost town our campus has been for the last 10 months reminds us of the devastation caused by COVID-19, construction and planning for future projects have carried on. The inside joke that UCD stands for “Under Construction Daily” has not changed in spite of the pandemic, but how the work gets done while keeping our community and contractors safe has.

New Bridge a Real Delight on All Sides

Driving over the new La Rue Road bridge, you will see the wider sidewalks and new bike lanes, and, on each side of the bridge, a safety barrier between the sidewalk and bike lane. But there’s something else about this span over the Arboretum Waterway, something to experience under the bridge when you’re walking or biking alongside the waterway.

Information for Contractors About Construction During COVID-19

Since mid-March 2020, several communications and orders related to the COVID-19 coronavirus have been provided by local municipalities, counties and the state, affecting the mission of Design and Construction Management (DCM). Information about the communications and orders affecting the Davis campus are available within.

La Rue Road Bridge Opening

The La Rue Bridge replacement project and 2-year detour around the bridge is officially over, with the paths in the Arboretum now open to the public just in time for scenic strolls and holiday hikes. Over the past couple of years, the expansive project required pedestrians, bikers, and cars to maneuver around the construction via detours while the Arboretum walkways under and near the bridge were closed.
