Traffic Advisory for Nov. 1 Football Game: Hutchison Drive Lane Closure

Except congestion, consider alternate routes

The ongoing Hutchison Drive lane closure, in place just west of the La Rue Road intersection, is expected to impact traffic during the upcoming UC Davis football game against Idaho State on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead for longer travel times and potential congestion.

Impacts

The closure reduces a portion of Hutchinson Drive to one lane of traffic in each direction. This closure is along a popular route to exit the university onto Highway 113 at Hutchinson Drive. As such, heavy congestion is expected on Hutchison Drive between the Health Sciences Drive and La Rue Road intersections, particularly as people leave the game.

Increased congestion is also expected on

  • La Rue Road, between the Hutchison Drive and Russell Boulevard intersections
  • Health Sciences Drive, between Lot 53 and Hutchison Drive
  • Hutchison Drive, between the Pavillion Parking Structure and La Rue Road

In addition to the Hutchison Drive construction closure, a portion of La Rue Road will be closed for tailgating. Traffic control officers will be stationed on La Rue Road at the Hutchison Drive and Garrod Drive intersections to direct vehicles and enforce the road closure.

Avoid the traffic

Consider taking alternative modes of transportation — like busing, biking or scootering, to avoid traffic delays.

If you do drive, consider taking an alternate route after the game. Vehicles leaving the Pavillion Parking Structure can avoid expected congestion by following Dairy Road to La Rue Road to Old Davis Road to access I-80. LED Traffic signs will be in place to direct vehicles toward this alternate route.

About the construction

The Hutchison Drive lane closure is a part of transportation infrastructure improvements happening in conjunction with the construction of the  Resnick Center for Agricultural Innovation. Read more.
