Hutchison Drive faces lane closures ahead of new traffic signal
No detours as median near Extension Center Drive undergoes construction, Oct. 13 to Nov. 21
From Oct. 13 to Nov. 21, 2025, both eastbound and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane for a portion of Hutchison Drive between Health Sciences Drive and La Rue Road. No vehicular or bicycle detours will be necessary, though there may be slow downs during peak traffic hours on campus.
Improvements after construction
The lane closures will be in place to facilitate the removal of the median island at the intersection of Extension Center Drive and Hutchison Drive. This is being done ahead of the installation of traffic lights at the intersection. This change will allow vehicles traveling east on Hutchison Drive to turn left onto Extension Center Drive and traffic from Extension Center Drive to turn right onto Hutchison Drive. In addition, crosswalks will be added on Hutchison Drive on either side of the intersection to facilitate safe pedestrian crossings.
The traffic signal and related improvements are being implemented in connection with the construction of the Resnick Center for Agricultural Innovation. With the Center expected to increase traffic in the area, these upgrades are designed to support safe and efficient travel for all modes of transportation.
