Project Overview
Construction Timeframe: Fall 2024 - Fall 2025
Seismic Improvements: Strengthened foundation and floor diaphragm, improved column strength with exterior shear walls
Code Compliance: Updated fire alarm system, improved parking, sidewalk, paths and stairs, remodeled restrooms
Electrical Panel Improvements: Replacement of select electrical panels
Voorhies Hall has been identified as a high priority, level VI rated, building for seismic improvements.
Seismic Renovation
- Strengthen floor diaphragm at interior building corners
- Strengthen building foundations at the building perimeter and courtyard
- Improve column lateral stability with concrete shear walls at exterior corners
Fire, Accessibility & Other Code Improvements
The following scope will be executed in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association standards (NFPA), the California Building Code (CBC) and Americans with Disabilities Act Standards (ADA).
- Upgrade the existing fire alarm system
- Install an accessible parking stall
- Update path of travel to entrances
- Update interior illuminated exit signage and room signage
- Remodel existing restrooms (men’s and women’s)
- Remove and replace interior stair guardrail and handrail
Electrical Panel Replacements
Electrical panels that have reached end of life will be replaced to help support electrical needs throughout the building. When possible, this work may be completed on a separate timeline from the other project work to help alleviate outages during business hours.
