Rendering of Flight Hall

Raptor Center Research Flight Hall and Mews

About this Project

The new flight hall will allow the College of Engineering and the School of Veterinary Medicine’s California Raptor Center to perform a new type of research into how bird flight can inform aircraft design. Read more in a UC Davis article. The facility will be a prefabricated barn equipped with infrared and high-speed, high-resolution cameras. This sub-millisecond and sub-millimeter accurate equipment enhances the research capabilities by developing a method to address fundamental questions related to uncrewed aerial systems and bird flight dynamics and control in complex and unsteady environments. The flight hall will also feature holding cages for the birds called “mews.”
