About the project

UC Davis is preparing to cap two former landfill areas on its south campus in coordination with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project will install specialized liner systems and protective soil covers designed to keep stormwater from entering the former landfill areas, along with a stormwater detention basin, landscaping, fencing and other site improvements. Construction involves substantial earthwork and will affect road access near the project area. Please refer to the map on this page for work zones, road closures and detour routes.

Construction impacts

To accommodate ongoing construction, a portion of Equine Lane in south campus, near the California Raptor Center is closed to all traffic through fall 2027.

Closure details

The closure encompasses a small stretch of Equine Lane south of Caprine Road and north of Levee Road, including the access gate that connects Levee Road and Equine Lane. This closure primarily affects traffic to facilities located on Caprine Road including:

  • Goat Teaching and Research Facility/Goat Barn
  • Oiled Wildlife Care Network (OWCN)
  • California Raptor Center sick/injured bird drop off
    • Regular visitors to the California Raptor Center can still access the center via Levee Road

Detour details

In order to access facilities on or near Caprine Road, traffic should turn from Old Davis Road east onto Mckinley Lane, the first turn south of the railroad tracks (Note: In some navigation apps Mckinley Lane may also be labelled “Trotter Way”). Detour signage and signage for the Center for Equine Health mark the turn. Follow Mckinley Lane until the road turns south, approximately 1200 feet. Continue south onto Equine Lane for another 1200 feet to the intersection of Caprine Road. Follow signage to find your destination.
