Staff Profile: Andrea Alonzo

Andrea Alonzo connects her passion for architecture and supporting her community as a project manager at UC Davis Design and Construction Management. 

Before transitioning to her current role, Alonzo spent many years in the private sector where she found a way to give back to her community — working on education projects. 

“Designing for the education sector is designing for the future of our kids,” Alonzo said, “ I have kids myself so it is something really important to me.” 

Her passion has translated into her current projects. At DCM, Alonzo has led the teaching lab renovations, a pilot project that modernizes undergraduate teaching laboratories. Over summer of 2026, several teaching lab classrooms were upgraded to improve student and instructor experience. 

“We have such a small budget, but we're making a high impact on these rooms that we renovate,” Alonzo said. “We're removing waitlists by providing more opportunities for students to get in and use these spaces.” 

From reviewing construction documents to ensuring projects are on schedule, Alonzo serves as the “middle person between the client, the designer, and the contractor.” 

Having completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture, Alonzo understands, “how design professionals work and how to communicate with them.” 

Alonzo came to UC Davis and found a strong sense of community. With so many disciplined and experienced people, there was always someone willing to offer a new perspective or connect her with someone who can help. 

“I have learned to not stay in my cubicle, but to go out, ask questions and ask for help,” Alonzo said. “People are so willing to do that in our office, which is a breath of fresh air.” 

Outside of work, Alonzo is studying to complete her life-long dream of becoming a licensed architect. She also loves spending time outdoors — including having beach days with her two children or hiking new trails.
