Grapevine Greenhouse

About this Project

This new, 14,400-square-foot, bug-proof greenhouse, will have a vestibuled entry to safeguard an important grapevine collection from red blotch disease and other pathogens that industry groups and Foundation Plant Services have identified as transmitted by insects. The Foundation Plant Services Grape Program is considered the largest quarantine center for the grapevine industry in the United States, and provides the grape industry with high-quality, virus-tested grapevine plant material.

Once the greenhouse is complete, 2,000 grapevines propagated from plant material from the foundation’s “Classic” vineyard, will be moved into the greenhouse, tested and verified as clean, before being sold to nurseries. This greenhouse is the first of two needed to safeguard 4,000 vines.
